Moissanite: what it is and who it suits

A brilliant, very hard stone of its own, with more fire than diamond and a gentler price.

Moissanite is silicon carbide, a stone in its own right rather than a diamond imitation. It is almost as hard as diamond, so it stands up to everyday wear, and it bends light more strongly, which gives it more flashes of colour ("fire").

How it compares

  • Sparkle. More colourful than diamond, especially in sunlight. Some people love the rainbow flashes; others prefer the whiter sparkle of diamond.
  • Durability. 9.25 on the Mohs scale, next to diamond's 10. Ideal for a ring worn every day.
  • Price. A fraction of a diamond of the same size.

Our moissanite

We use colourless moissanite (D–E colour range, VVS clarity) and include a certificate of authenticity. Every engagement design is available with it. If you're deciding between moissanite and a lab-grown diamond, a video appointment is the quickest way to see the difference.
